Set during the Falklands War, Special Deliverance follows a small group of SBS soldiers. The SBS are one of Britain’s élete army regiments. They are similar to the better known SAS, but are more navy based.

Argentina is causing a lot of damage to the Royal Navy, through the use of targeted Exocet missiles. Missiles that are capable of causing catastrophic damage to destroyers and killing a lot of soldiers and sailors.

The assignment for the special task force is to get into an Argentinian missile base and nock out the Exocets. Politically it is a sensitive operation so they can’t go in, guns spraying bullets everywhere. Instead they need to get in with stealth and damage the missiles in such a way that no one would know they’d been tampered with.

In order to help them they’ve got Andy MacEwan. An Anglo-Argentine civilian who knows the area of operations and has friends who can help.

The decision to bring Andy onboard was tough, not just because he’s a civilian Argentine. But his brother is Commander of the Argentine Air Force…

What follows is fairly well written, and it’s interesting to see how the SBS operate (although I have no idea how accurate it is). There’s nothing particularly in the writing that would make you go wow! But it’s still a good story, and if you’re into historical war fiction then this is not a bad book to pick up…
