The Hollow Chocolate Bunnies of the Apocalypse
- Author: Robert Rankin
- Publisher: Gollancz
There is something very wrong in Toy City. Someone is going around and killing off some of the most famous characters in nursery history, the first to go being Humpty Dumpty. There is not much evidence but the murderer does leave behind a very special chocolate calling card…
Unfortunately the cities main (and only) private detective has gone missing and it is up to his teddy bear, Eddie, to unravel the mystery. But Eddie can’t do this alone (no opposable thumbs for starters), so he enlists the help of a most recent edition to Toy City. Jack, a bit of a gormster, has left his small sleepy town to find fame and fortune in the Big City. However, he gets a hell of a shock when he arrives and finds himself left with little choice other than to accept Eddie’s invitation to join his investigation.
What’s left is a typical Rankin style trip through the bizarre, and it’s a real eye-opener!
The action is hot and fast-paced, and poor Jack & Eddie are always one pace behind the serial killer (Yes! A serial killer in Toy City). This is not helped by the Toy City Police’s belief that Eddie and Jack are in-fact responsible for the murders (and they’re rather free with the old truncheon!).
When asking yourself, shall I buy and read this book? You should consider the following. How else are you going to find out the true meaning behind the nursery rhymes we all take for granted? And where else will you read about the very creative demise of some of the best-known nursery characters?
Good fun, laugh out loud reading from the master in creative comedy!
