Chalava! Chalava! Chalava zho!
Rhian is now queen of Ethrea but all is far from well. Zandakar is in prison as his relationship with the Mijak Queen as been revealed, and her husband (King Alasdair) is increasingly jelious of her love.
The threat that Mijak poses seams obvious to Rhian, but the trading nations — ruled by their own greed — are reluctant to help. And even threaten reprisals if Ethrea defends itself.
Rhian finds an odd allie in Han, the emperor of Tzhung-Tzhungchai, who knows more than most the threat that Mijak poses. But even their magically and spiritually gifted witch-men are not a match for Mijak and their bloodthirsty god.
This third instalment of the Godspeaker trilogy brings the first two books together nicely and is a fitting end to the series. Both the Ethrea and Mijak sides to the story are covered, unlike the first two which tended to concentrate on one side only.
Obviously the good guys truimph in the end but the journey is a good one. It’s a good series but I do feel this last book lost some of the pace that both Empress and The Riven Kingdom posses.
Certainly this book, and probably the Godspeaker trilogy as a whole, would have benefited from some more aspects to the story. I’m not saying everything has to be as complicated as the A Song Of Ice And Fire series, but…
Anyway, overall a good read and a good series that you’ll likely enjoy.
Anyone else complete the series? Or were you all put off by Hekat (who doesn’t get any better or easier to live with) in the first book?
