Emissary — Percheron Book Two
- Author: Fiona McIntosh
- Publisher: Orbit
- Classification: Percheron
So I’ve at last got around to reviewing the second Percheron book, Emissary. I thought the first book, Odalisque, was kinda good so I was looking forward to seeing where Fioana McIntosh went with it all…
Odalisque Ana is now trying to accept that her life has now boiled down to the oppresive and claustrophobic world of the hareem. She’s made a promise to herself that she’ll try and stay out of trouble. Which will be hard as the viscous Grand Master Eunuch, Salmeo, has got it in for her. The somewhat bitter Valide Herezah also sees her as competition for power and the the Zar’s affections.
Together, through a clever but ultimately vindicive cunning, they are plotting to be rid of the young Odalisque. And through her own naïveté she might just play into their hands, for nothing those hate-fild people do is obvious and is always based on subtle manipulation.
A further thorn in Percheron’s side is the old enemy, Galinsea, has now heard of the death of their Prince Lucien (know in Percheron as Spur Lazar). Although he was never exactly close with his family they can’t stand by while a royal prince, and heir to the Galinsea throne is murdered.
So what can you expect from this book? More of the same: more plotting, more intrigue and more sword action. It’s a decent sequal to Odalisque so anyone who enjoyed the first book should stick with it. If you’ve not read the series then it’s worth getting in to.
You’re hardly going to have a great epiphany about your life but it’s great esacpism, which is what good fantasy fiction is really all about.
As ever, rate the book below or drop a comment so others now what you thought about the book.
